did you actually hear already
once a glass glasharmonika or did you see one?
If not - and those are most -, you become to be
surely surprised that this instrument once was
approximately as popular as the Hammond organ,
that Beethoven and C.P.E.Bach composed for it,
Mozart itself played it,that famous authors such
as Oscar Wilde and E.T.A. Hoffmann wrote
about it, and the composer and player
of the Glasharmonika
Naumann from Dresden praised his playing of his
instrument telling that all ladies fainted on
after the other when hearing this marvellous sound;
that finally a jealous controversy over market
shares and production secrets of the glassworks
led to the fact that the instrument –in
lack of glass manufacturers- came into complete
oblivion for centuries! |
